Obituary of Laurence G. Sliss

Laurence G. Sliss Laurence G. Sliss of the Town of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Friday, October 22, 2010 at home. He was 31. Son of Gerald and Margaret Galloway Sliss, he was born on September 7, 1979 in Mineola. Larry graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1998. Formerly, he volunteered for the Arlington Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT; his true passion was helping others. Larry worked as an anesthesia tech for Vassar Brother Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. There, he wore many hats. He would fill in where ever needed, such as the ER or in endoscopy, working overtime to fill in and help out. Larry enjoyed working with people and caring for them however he could. In his spare time, he enjoyed ice hockey, golfing and gardening. Larry also loved to read about his Scottish heritage; he kept in touch with several cousins in Scotland, England and Spain. In addition to his parents at home in Poughkeepsie, Larry is survived by his sisters, Christine Tyszka and her husband, Joseph of Stevensville, MD, and Danielle Sliss of Bethlehem, GA; his significant other, Krystina Seger of Peekskill; nephews, Jacob and Raymond; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 29 at 12 noon at the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls, 2568 South Avenue in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry's name to the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
