Bruce Beasimer

Obituary of Bruce D. Beasimer

Bruce Donald Beasimer, 67, of Wappingers Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Born in Beacon on Nov. 5, 1947, he was the son of Anne Lundewall and the late Horace Beasimer. On Aug. 26, 1967, Bruce married his life-long sweetheart, Linda Salvatore, who "thunder-struck" him at age 14, with one glance over her shoulder whilst in the grandstands of Stitzel Field during a Poughkeepsie-Beacon football game. Their love is legendary. Linda survives at home. Bruce is also survived by his beloved daughter, Jessica, and son-in-law Keith Teller; his mother and step-father, Anne and Clifford Lundewall; his sister, Karen and brother-in-law, Steven Mosher; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and William Harrison; aunts, Barbara VanVoorhis and Jean-Louise Baker; nephews, Scott Harrison, Joseph Forte, and Steven Michael Mosher; niece, Tanya Harrison; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, Horace Beasimer and his aunt, Mary Hoffman. Bruce served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1965 to 1971 and worked for IBM as a "Yes Man for the Military Industrial Complex" for 27 years. He volunteered for many local organizations, from giving blood to staffing local election sites and raising funds for the American Heart Association. Bruce loved to travel and in his too-short life took many memorable trips, including a cross-country journey in 1984 with his girls, in addition to trips with Linda to France, London, Scotland, Prague, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Canada. Bruce was a devoted friend to many and he will be forever remembered for his wit, humor, generosity, curiosity, passion and love of life. He loved history, language, politics, baseball, music and some "Damn Fine Port." His true joys were found in his family, many friends, and especially his girls: Lin, Jess, and his beloved grand-puppy, Lucy. He will be missed and mourned as a loving son, devoted husband, proud father, teasing and loving brother and uncle, and dear friend. The family will welcome guests to celebrate his life from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A sharing of remembrances will take place at 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the Dutchess Community College Foundation.
