Obituary of Raymond E. Paggi

Raymond E. Paggi of Wappingers Falls was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. He was 87. Son of the late Mario and Mary Laudidio Paggi, he was born on November 3, 1925 in Wappingers Falls. He married the love of his life, Louise E. DiMarco on February 26, 1949 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Paggi preceded him in death, passing on January 2, 2010. Raymond was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. During his service he received several medals and commendations including the American Area Medal, World War II Victory Medal, United Nations Ribbon and Korean Ribbon. After he was honorably discharged, Raymond worked as a research engineer for Texaco in Glenham until his retirement. Mr. Paggi was a member of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls where he was a Sacristan for over 25 years. He was also a Secular Franciscan at Mount Alvernia in Wappingers Falls. Raymond was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1646 and a volunteer referee for CYO Basketball at St. Mary's School for many years. Survivors include his children and their families: Michael Paggi and his children, Jennie (Greg), Jill (Shawn) and Laura; Raymond Paggi (Gail) and their children, Stacy (Kevin) and Cheryl; Judy Angelovich and her children, Eddie (Ashley) and Jessica; Elizabeth Parrotte (Ron) and their children, Nikki, Cristie and Brittany; and Larry Paggi (Mary) and their children, Adam (Kim), Meredith (fiancé, Chris), Ryan, Joseph and Catherine; brother, Joseph Paggi; sisters, Joan Moruzzi and Margaret Manny; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Brayden, Madison, Becca, Cameron, Amelia and Mikayla; many nieces and nephews; and those dear to his heart, Andy and Eleanor DiMarco, Joan DiMarco, Ed Angelovich and Nancy Saunders-Paggi. In addition to his wife, Louise, he was predeceased by his brothers, William Paggi and Hugo Paggi, and his sisters, Anne Leonard, Maria Paggi and Clotilda Paggi. Family will receive friends on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, March 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Raymond's name to St. Mary's School Angel Fund, 2 Convent Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
