Obituary of David J. Lyons

David J. Lyons, a resident of Pleasant Valley, entered into rest Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at his home. He was 62. Son of the late James J. and Catherine O'Brien Lyons, he was born January 24, 1951 in Poughkeepsie and grew up in Wappingers Falls. He was a graduate of Marist Collge. He married the former Judy Butsko on January 10, 1981 at St. Augustine's Church in Highland. Judy survives at home. Prior to his retirement, Dave worked in Human Resources and Personnel with Ulster County and had previously worked in Personnel in Dutchess County and also had worked for Greystone Programs. He was a parishioner of St. Peter's Parish in Poughkeepsie. Dave was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Pleasant Valley. He was a 4-H leader for 20 years, enjoying this time as his children and grandchildren were growing up. He was an animal lover, especially his dogs and guinea pigs, who he truly loved. He loved bicycles, scooters and bicycle riding. Dave was a hockey fan and was fond of playing the trombone. In addition to his wife, Judy, Dave is survived by his children, Jason of Pleasant Valley, Joshua of Lakewood, Colorado, Stephanie and her partner, Matt Reed of Burbank, California and Emily of Pleasant Valley; his brother, Daniel Lyons and wife Nancy of Latham; his sister, Elizabeth Lyons Stroter and husband Ted of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; and his grandchildren, Lexi Lyons and Kendra Lyons. Family will receive friends on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 99 Inwood Avenue, Poughkeepsie with Fr. James A. Garisto officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls.
