Obituary of Alice M. Scheff

Alice Marie Scheff, 64, departed this life surrounded by her family on Monday, December 30, 2013 at her home in Wappingers Falls, NY. She now rests in God's eternal care. For the past 15 years she fought a courageous and steadfast battle against metastatic breast cancer. She was an incredibly brave warrior and an inspiration to all who knew her. She has been an arrow pointing to the mountain of the Lord. She was born on April 25, 1949 in Bellerose, NY to Harry and Hildegard Galaid. She attended SUNY Plattsburg where she received a BA in Education. Alice spent most of her teaching career at Fishkill Elementary School as a loving and professionally dedicated first grade teacher. Alice married Michael in June 1970 and was happily married for 43 years. She was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church where she fulfilled her passion for decorating, gardening, and hosting a women's Bible study. At home she immersed herself in caring for her flower garden, shopping, stamping and spending time with her many friends. When she was healthy she would volunteer her time and help others in need; when she wasn't others were helping her. She was a living example of what a wife, mother, grandmother and friend should be. Alice was preceded in death by her father Harry, her stepfather Albert Wahl and stillborn infant daughter. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her mother Hildegard; her son David and his wife, Angela; and her son Matthew and his wife, Courtney; her sisters, Carol and Nancy; and grandchildren Holden, Katherine, and Hadley. Visitation will be held at Immanuel Church, 253 Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A brief visitation will also be held on Thursday, January 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A funeral service will be held following visitation on Thursday at 12 noon. Burial will take place on Friday, January 3 at 2 p.m. at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale.
