Obituary of Mary T. Browne

Mary T. Browne, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2014. Born in Beacon on June 6, 1928, Mary was the daughter of Mary Bree and Michael Hugh McElduff. She married James F. Browne on April 7, 1956 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon; Mr. Browne survives at home. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Wappingers Falls, NY. Mary grew up in Beacon and was one of eight children. She attended high school at Mount Saint Mary Academy in Newburgh and graduated from The College of New Rochelle. Prior to her retirement, Mary worked at IBM in the Engineering Department and at the Fox Street Sales Offices in Poughkeepsie. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and was a longtime volunteer at St Francis Hospital where she made many friends. Most recently Mary lived at the Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, J. Mark Browne and wife Laurel of Kinderhook, Brian Browne and wife Marilyn of Delmar, Christopher Browne and wife Lisa of Middletown, NJ, Monica Jones and husband Walter of Hyde Park, Stephen Browne of Newburgh, and Jessica Farley and husband Timothy of Valatie; her grandchildren Cormick, Charlot, Trevor, Clare, Conor, Caitlin, Cristin, Colleen, Maggie, Owen, Aidan, Catherine and John Paul; her great grandchild Lincoln; her siblings, Anne Shultz and husband William, Gerald McElduff and wife Anita, John McElduff and wife Sue, and Kate Huber; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is also survived by many Irish cousins both here and in Ireland. She was predeceased by her brothers Patrick, Daniel and Michael McElduff, sisters-in-law Peggy, Ann, Ursula and brother-in-law, Gene Huber. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, Route 9 in Poughkeepsie.
