Obituary of Mary G. Swanson
Mary G. Swanson, (Mimi), a resident of Staatsburg, entered into rest Saturday, February 9, 2019 at her home. She was 90.
Daughter of the late Edward and Florence Rogers Gray, she was born February 6, 1929 in Poughkeepsie. On December 19, 1959 she married Richard A. Swanson in Poughkeepsie. Mr. Swanson survives at home.
Mary was magnanimous and beloved as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caretaker. In her youth she served the community as a horse-riding instructor and was a member of the Rombout Hunt Club. She was an active member and deacon of Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church. She had been a councilperson and member of the zoning board for the Town of Clinton. She was a former member of the board of directors for New Horizons Resources. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a sweet, yet strong minded woman who was the life of the party and loved to have fun. Mary’s departure leaves behind an absence in the community that will not soon be filled. Per her own personal philosophy, those affected should continue with their lives as normal, while simply striving to bring as much kindness, love, and goodwill as they can to those they cross paths with.
In addition to her husband, Richard A. Swanson, she is survived by her children, Richard E. Swanson and his wife, Marie of Hopewell Junction and Korin Swanson and her husband, Graham Trask of Geneva, Switzerland; her grandchildren, Michael, Christian and Ryan Swanson and Richard Graham and Verane Trask; her great-grandchild, Carter Swanson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Edward, Robert, Thomas and John Gray.
Family will receive their friends on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Celebration of Life will be held the week of March 11th at Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church in Staatsburg. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to Greystone Programs, 700 South Drive, Suite 203, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 or New Horizons Resources, 123 West Road, Pleasant Valley, NY 12569.
