Obituary of Antonietta Morante
Antonietta Morante, 89, passed away on April 30, 2021, surrounded by family at her adopted home, of her daughter, Josephine, in Wappinger Falls, NY. The daughter of Galdino DeVito and Margherita Conte, Antonietta was born in Grottolella, Avellino, a province of Naples, Italy on March 14, 1932.
Antonietta is pre-deceased by her loving husband, Alberto Morante (February 22, 1929 – May 3, 2005). The two were happily married in Grottolella, Avellino on April 8, 1956. The eldest of her siblings, Antonietta is also pre-deceased by her brother, Ralph DeVito (Denver, CO) and her two sisters, Irma Conte (Dedham, MA) and Maria Cala (Bronx, NY) along with her brother-in-law, John Cala (Bronx, NY)
Antonietta is survived by her brother Alfonso DeVito (Grottolella, Avellino) and sister-in-law Perina, her sister, Carmela Pasquale (Grottolella, Avellino) and brother-in-law, Renato, sister-in-law, Assunta DeVito (Denver, CO), and brother-in-law, Italo Conte (Dedham, MA); daughter, Gina Katsalirou (Itea, Greece) and son-in-law, George Katsaliros, daughter, Josephine Pennacchia (Wappinger Falls) and son-in-law John R. Pennacchia, daughter, Rita M. Nagengast (Bridgewater, NJ) and son-in-law William J. Nagengast III.
She was also blessed and proud to have six amazing grandchildren who were the loves of her life including Stephanie Pennacchia, Hera Katsalirou, Jonathan Pennacchia, Noelle Pennacchia, Ava Maria Nagengast and Eric Nagengast, along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to Antonietta’s caregivers, Cathy and Alice, along with the entire staff of Hudson Valley Hospice, especially Marcella, for their constant support and friendship, as well as Father Dan of St. Mary’s in Wappingers Falls for his continued spiritual support.
The immediate family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. In compliance with NYS guidelines, social distancing and face masks will be required and capacity may be limited.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5th at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road Hartsdale, NY 10530.
