Obituary of Sophie Kalaka

Sophie Kalaka Sophie Kalaka of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Friday, March 21, 2008 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 80. Daughter of the late Leon and Anna Cichinsky, she was born on May 10, 1927 in Boston, MA. She married the love of her life, Arthur Kalaka on June 25, 1949 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn; Mr. Kalaka survives at home in Wappingers Falls. Sophie spent her life making a warm and loving home for her husband and six children. She was a devoted mother and loved her time spent with her adoring grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Arthur, she is survived by her sons, Arthur Kalaka of Manhattan, Robert Kalaka and his wife, Virginia of Poughkeepsie, Michael Kalaka and his wife, Frances of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, and William Kalaka and his wife, Deborah of Oceanport, NJ; her daughters, Jo-Ann Kalaka-Adams and her husband, James of Sea Bright, NJ, and Jackie Kalaka-Reeves and her husband, Gary of Ansonia, CT; grandchildren, Kyle Kalaka, Emily Kalaka, Michael Kalaka, Sophia Rochelle Kalaka, Jack Buck and Gary Reeves. She was predeceased by her brothers, Henry and Leon Cichinsky. Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, March 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
