Stanley "Bucky" Chapman
Stanley "Bucky" Chapman, a resident of New Hamburg, entered into rest, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at his home. He was 91.
Son of the late Edward and Hattie Chapman, he was born December 8, 1918 in Poughkeepsie. He married the former Florence Scardefield on May 9, 1943 in New Hamburg. Mrs. Chapman preceded him in death on October 4, 1990. Bucky proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie. He was a life member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club and also a life member of the New Hamburg Fire Company. He was a member of the Battery BNC 156 Field Artillery Association, 44th Division and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bucky enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. With his wife, he enjoyed traveling and camping.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary A. Hornbeck of New Hamburg; his sister, Vivian Vandenbrul of Poughkeepsie; his three grandchildren, Edward Hornbeck and his wife, Raquel of Orlando, Florida, Roy Hornbeck, Jr. and his wife, Beth of Bethel, Connecticut and Meredith Koonts and her husband, Brian of Orlando, Florida; his six great-grandchildren, Ava, Evan, Ethan, Grant, Jacob and Molly; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son, John E. Chapman on March 27, 2008; his brother, Edward Chapman; and his son-in-law, Roy Hornbeck.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Astrid Joy Storm officiating.
Burial will be in Wappingers Rural Cemetery.
